Female personal trainer critiquing a male client in how to perform push ups on push up bars

Why personal training is important is not only is it individualized and personalised, it helps to keep you accountable, working to a suitable schedule, and helps you achieve goals instead of losing interest with a genetic program. It is also safe in regards to injuries.

The benefits of having a personal trainer are:

  • Individualized and personalised programs.
  • Accountability to show up for training and keeping on a schedule that works for you.
  • Critique of range of motion for safety and to help improve mobility especially as we age.
  • Safety through spotting heavier lifts and new movement patterns.
  • Motivation to keep training and moving.
  • Professional planning of your goals to help improve in the areas you need eg. strength, power, speed.

Following generic plans through apps or programs are designed to help everyone on the same basis.

If you have an area that you need more work on, maybe carrying an injury or lack of mobility due to your body mechanics, some exercises can cause more damage to that or you are not realising the root cause of lack of mobility and therefore you do not attend to this.

Typical scenario:  tight ankles and lack of ankle flexion will limit squat range.

People just think that they can not squat deep, without realising their ankles need attention to help range of movement through stretches and specific exercises to help their squat become more comfortable or deeper.

This plus many other reasons are why you are better off having a personal trainer than following a generic program.

  • You may have dysfunctional hormones and following a HIIT program everyday can make this worse.
  • Poor technique, you continually perform an exercise such as push up the wrong way which doesn’t increase your strength – it only causes an injury to your shoulders later down the track.
  • Overtraining and not seeing progression, instead regression.

I highly recommend investing in a trainer to help you start, get on track, stay on track or complete your individual goals.

Just like you have investment planners to guide your finances for your wealth, a personal trainer is here for your wellness and health.
