A Health Coach is your personal support person, in whatever path YOU choose, the Health Coach will be there WITH you every step of the way. A Health Coach is different from a traditional ‘Sports Coach’. A Sports Coach works with a structured plan style to help build your strength or fitness level by following certain methods. A Health Coach lets YOU create the plan, and then you work through steps in a proactive way. - NO DIETS
A Health Coach does not implement any diets, eating plans, or restrict foods. You don’t step on a set of scales, get measured or use calipers. Scales measure one part of your life- your weight, they don’t measure your height, your stress levels, your hormone levels, your happiness or your lifestyle. A Health Coach works with you to help alleviate your pain point, which could be an unhealthy habit you want to change to live a healthier lifestyle – it’s not about being on a diet and losing weight. It’s about fixing those areas of concern so as you can be happy in life. - BALANCED HEALTH FOCUS
A Health Coach is here to offer support with your general well-being. It could be your stress levels, sleep quality, nutrition or physical activity. Whatever the concern is a Health Coach is here to help you balance your work, family and health in a way that suits YOU. The client drives the sessions and the Coach supports their needs. It could be to help source meditation classes, refer to health practitioners, brain storm to help change unhealthy habits. - EDUCATE
A Health Coach educates their client on their troubled areas. Health Coaching does not preach, they give the client the right tools and information to help them understand more about their areas of concern so the client can LEARN. If a person is educated a way in which suits them (visual, audio or hands on), and not just given facts and figures, their success rate of change is much higher. - NOT GENERIC
You are all individual, you all have different concerns, lifestyles, jobs, and history to everyone else – therefore your plan of action will be suited to you and journey is going to be different compared to everyone else. Why go on a nutritional plan like everyone else, (because it’s week one of the challenge for example, what’s that got to do with anything?) Too many people sign up to a generic plan/challenge, and it’s not even tailored to their needs. This only sets them up to fail again. Generic plans do not take into account hormone imbalances, shift workers, new families, food sensitivities or more importantly they haven’t asked the person what are the deep down areas of concerns, and the most degrading is there’s NO compromise – it’s do as your told style, which again is not going to work. - ACCOUNTABILITY
The client is accountable for their actions. So many people join up to a weight loss program so that they are accountable to someone. That’s a great way to help change habits, but again it’s about the formula the weight loss program wants it to be done, it’s not about the way YOU can get it done. If you work long shifts without breaks (that needs to change eventually), your job has you traveling a lot, your baby is unwell, the weight loss program does not allow for these situations. Health Coaches guide you where you need it, the client is accountable because it’s set up to the way the client can implement it, and by knowing they are accountable. All their external factors are taken into account so as they don’t use these as a reason to fail. - ENCOURAGE
A Health Coach will encourage their clients throughout their journey. If a relapse occurs, they readjust the plan the client has put together and they continue on a pathway they can handle. We all evolve every day, so the encouragement is there to help you deal with the new changes and help you to the next step of your journey. A Health Coach is always beside you, not ahead of you pulling you through. - CHOICES
A Health Coach will always give you choices. This is not a plan made by the coach and given to you to follow. It’s about choices, it’s about flexibility, it’s about working as a team so as your health improves where you need it to improve.
With all of these aspects above a Health Coach allows you to finally live a lifestyle you can deal with. You are not following a plan that “looks good”, or is the “new fad eating plan”, or the “text book guide to getting a good night sleep”, it’s YOUR plan. It’s accommodating all the external factors in your life, it’s putting into place a step by step action plan that has a personal support person with you, to help encourage you to successfully change your life so that you can live healthier for longer. It’s not about smashing it out in 6 or 12 weeks, it’s not a before or after photo. It does not include scales, body fat calipers or beep tests. It’s the most practical way to help you in what you need. It’s about your overall HEALTH!
