Woman measuring her thigh with a tape measure

It’s the first day of Spring in Australia and it’s the season many start to want to look for a diet to get rid of the Winter kilos and in this case COVID kilos..

A popular question I get asked is “what do you think of X or Y diet?, my friend lost 10kg on this diet, bla bla blah…”

We all know there are so many diet and eating plans out there on the market now and all claim to be healthy for you and give you the best weight loss result ever!

Problem is – is that we are all different and we all respond to different dietary plans in many different ways.

The best way to answer this question is to understand more of your story
  • Do you have a family you take care of? If so:
  • Are they fussy eaters/do you have time to cook/do you like to cook?
  • Do you live on your own?
  • Do you work nightshift?
  • Do you have joint pain?
  • What other eating plans have you tried before?
    And the list goes on..
Every dietary plan out there has its benefits and concerns, based on you.

If you suffer from hashimoto’s (autoimmune disease), cancer, high blood pressure, anxiety or any other condition my answer for each of these will be different as to which healthy diet is best for weight loss.
I believe an elimination diet can help some people, a plant based diet can help others and a high fat low carb is brilliant for other people.

Healthiest diet best to lose weight

Everyone must realise that if you currently contain a diet with loads of sugars, processed carbohydrates, soft drinks, excessive amounts of coffee or stimulants, overeating issues, starvation diets, or binge eating (continually do laps around your pantry and fridge)…
when you change any of that – your body is going to adapt and will lose weight.

  • Just cutting out sugar is healthy and a great way to lose weight.
  • simply increasing the plant foods, incorporating more fibre – this is a change to your health and you will lose weight, or
  • increase protein value to help support lean muscle this helps your metabolic rate that leads to healthy weight loss.

When you believe in yourself and remove processed foods, eating more plants along with good quality protein and fat sources you are on the healthiest diet that is best for weight loss.
We all know we feel great once our bodies are fed correctly.

Where people get it wrong is by living by labels and rules

  • becoming obsessed and believe there is only one way
  • ignoring body cues and signals – tiredness, moods
  • hair, skin and nails deteriorate
  • Or not giving the new dietary plan time to work and expecting results in week one.

A healthy diet is not just food – it’s your entire lifestyle.

  • improved hydration
  • great sleep
  • regular movement and mobility
  • healthy relationships with yourself and others.

Eating a colourful plate with a variety of vegetables, grass fed protein and pure healthy fats, but eating in front of a computer screen getting peeved off with the emails you are trailing through, and it’s 10pm at night… your body will not pick up any of these nutrient dense ingredients, instead it’ll be stressed out of it’s cells, storing this food as fat while it’s in a fight and flight system.
