I work with people that have tried everything and they’re back to square one WITH more weight on them and very frustrated and unhappy.
It’s nice to think outside the box and understand more about the body and how we can help keep it metabolically healthy and lose body fat that you do not need.
So let’s dissolve some of your problems..
Here’s my tips on what you can focus on instead of the two main points everyone talks about – diet and exercise and they are FREE, won’t cost you a thing to sign up !
If you feel you have really dialed in your diet, and you exercise throughout the week, but still feel stuck with your metabolic rate being slow (therefore gaining weight – or losing none!)
Then I recommend you have a read of these tips below:
1.Breathe
If you work on your breath to slow it down and extend the exhale from the inhale you will alter your carbon dioxide levels in the body.
The more carbon dioxide you have the better VO2 max (aerobic fitness) you will have.
The less illness your body will endure.
Breathing is FREE
More detail about this in a recent book I read Breath by James Nestor and The carbon Dioxide Syndrome by Jennifer and Russell Stark
2. Cold showers
We are born with high levels of brown fat, this is how babies keep themselves warm. As we age we lose the brown fat in our bodies, the brown fat is our thermostat and works to keep our organs warm and cool us down. As we get older we use more ‘man made’ thermostats to adjust our temperatures (air conditioners, heaters, jackets and other clothing).
Cold showers help to regulate and increase the brown fat in our bodies that help to reduce the level of white fat that sits around our organs and belly. This plays a huge part in our metabolic rate.
Cold showers also help to boost energy and this puts you in a great mindset by decreasing carbon dioxide to help you concentrate more. (Yes opposite to increasing carbon dioxide with slow breaths).
Our body lives on cycles and this can work with more carbon dioxide at times and less at others.
Cold showers are FREE
Here’s more from Wim Hof himself
When you can control this through breath – this is powerful.
3. Sleep
It’s not new news to know that sleep helps to lose weight.
Magic happens when we are sleeping, through release of toxins, repair of cells and muscle.
To help lose weight and gain muscle mass – studies have shown that more sleep creates more muscle mass.
Individuals that slept 5.5 hours a night had 60% less muscle mass at the end of the study, those that slept 8.5 hours had 40% more muscle mass.
You choose – Netflix binging or your health?
Sleep is FREE, it’s not only a huge contributor to your health, but will help your creative mind, your work, and your relationship with others.
4. Hydration
To keep your body hydrated helps the cells to function at an optimal level. Keeping the cell lining in good condition (including omega 3 fats in your diet) helps to keep the hydration inside the cell.
This helps energy inside the cell, giving you more energy.
Hydration doesn’t have to mean drinking more water – it means include more foods that contain good cellular water – here’s a list that can help.
Water is FREE – (you can buy a filter to put onto your kitchen tap).
When we stress about losing weight or getting rid of the weight gained, and frustrated as to why we can’t the stress you add to your body subconsciously works like this:
What prevents fat burning…
Stress is a big at the moment with covid, plus it can be from too much exercise, financial stress, hectic lifestyle, no peaceful times at home (due to covid as well), poor sleep, bad diet.
What this tells the body is – conserve calories and eat more.
Lots of stress for humans meant I don’t have shelter and I don’t have food, so the body says slow down the calorie burn – stressed out situation, so we need to make sure we store these calories.
You move away from being effective at burning body fat, you move towards being effective at storing body fat when stress is likely.
Studies have shown that it increases the amount of fat we store in the body and it’s visceral fat (stored around the organs) or around the belly.
Stress management is very important – if you stay stressed your body will find it hard to burn body fat.
Good luck
