Weight Loss
Being a trainer, every week I am asked about the best ways to lose weight and questioned on “new fads’ etc. I admit I get frustrated with some people wanting the advice but not doing anything with the advice. The best way for people to deal with starting a weight loss/healthy lifestyle journey is to think of the following points and then decide the best way to approach this lifestyle change: Firstly you have to take order; you need to realize where you are going wrong with your current diet: – look at the meal options you are having plus the sizes of your meals. – eating habits such as always having a biscuit or snack with a coffee or cup of tea – after dinner snacks – binging – skipping meals, only to have more non- nutritious snacks in between meals – what changes do you think you can make to your diet? – do you want to change your diet and start exercise program together? – do you need to be educated on healthy options? Secondly you need to establish what motivates you; such as – wanting to reduce your current medication (high blood pressure) – get generally fit or fit for an event – get motivated so you stick to your dietary changes – group encouragement – meet with a trainer a couple of times a week? Thirdly find a goal to work towards and work out a plan with your trainer; – improve fitness level – lose weight or body fat % – gain strength – reduce back pain or knee pain – improve endurance level – reduce or eliminate bad eating habits – improve water intake – improve sleep and overall health Once you have written some of these things down and worked out some plans for achieving your goals, it is in fact easier to then work out meal plans and exercise routines so as they complement each other and lifestyle changes are easier to manage, therefore results are seen quicker. I see too many people have ridiculous goals set for an unrealistic time frames. This then turns into failed attempts and either weight is gained and exercise routines thrown out the window and they are set further back than when they started. Don’t expect results straight away, and you certainly will not get results if you cheat yourself and expect your trainer to do the hard yards for you. Everyone needs to be accountable for themselves – that’s from beginning of the journey, right through. So get yourself organized, talk to your trainer and enjoy this change as I know all my crew that have succeeded are so grateful of their new lifestyle.
