This is very important for those that have adrenal dysfunction and are under a lot of stress.
We are now more aware that excess exercise can actually cause you to retain weight. Just as much as cutting too many calories can cause your body to cry “famine!”
Over exercise can make your body think, “emergency!”
You know you are in a safe environment but your body thinks it’s in a hostile environment, and holds on to every gram of body fat for dear life – literally!
When you have adrenal concerns it’s good to slow down and nourish the body, it’s not to say you can not go back to vigorous activity, it’s about listening to the body, keeping it as a friend not an enemy and once you are healthy internally you can enjoy the benefits of exercise.
Getting appropriate regular exercise will:
- Help you sleep
- Boost your immune system
- Reduce your stress
- Improve your mood
- Regulate your blood pressure
- Decrease your risk of heart disease, diabetes and osteoporosis
- Help you live longer
- Improve your muscle tone
- Help maintain your health as you age
Exercise is good for you. Your body, after all, was designed to move.
So please don’t deprive yourself of the joys of exercise. However if you are experiencing adrenal dysfunction, you need to gear your level of activity accordingly.
Once your adrenals are healed and you are getting everything back in balance – then you can consider increasing the intensity of your workouts… it’s like ripping off the bandaid before your cut has healed, it’ll keep getting infected and taking longer to heal – same applies to the adrenals:
- Reduce activity
- Rejuvenate and nourish
- Reset
- Resume activity
