Sheer poison in our pantries

Vegetable, Sunflower, Canola and Rice bran oils…

I am always discussing health topics with my clients each and every day to help them understand misleading marketing information and myths about what oils are best to use for cooking, baking and frying.

Recommended book  “Deep Nutrition” by Catherine Shanahan has blown me away.

Cat has put so much information into this book and dives deep into the shocking truth about vegetable oils.

Trust me – if you have any vegetable, sunflower, rice bran or canola oil in your pantry – I seriously would be throwing it out, for your benefit and those whom you love.

All these oils are in everything processed, they are hidden in margarine, dips, cheese spreads, spreadable butter, canned foods, ready to eat meals, packets of chips, biscuits, pastries, bread, frozen foods, crumbed foods, muesli bars, dried fruits, sauces and condiments – and that’s just to name a few!!!

I will explain to you why these need to be eliminated from your diets immediately, and if you are still sceptical – you need to buy this book and read all 426 pages.

How did these oils come to be apart of our diets?

It comes down to cheap and convenient products catch on quick, and we tend not to ask where they were made or what they were made of, so the easier and cheaper our food gets, the less we think about it.

Our culinary traditions have changed so much since our grandparents era, as has our lifestyles in so many ways.

Yes we are all busy and everything is now 24/7, so our ‘grab and go’ mentality is so much easier, however this is coming at a cost to our health in many ways than one.

With so many years and decades of science studies, they can now reveal exactly how certain products are affecting our health.

I will paraphrase very important parts of this book debunking low fat and cholesterol.

Cholesterol

Is needed by our bodies in so many ways and you just have to look at some of the oldest people (like our grandparents) around us enjoying excellent health after a lifetime of consuming butter, eggs and red meat.

My Grandma passed in February 2017 at the age of 94, of old age – not one machine hooked up to her, not one bit of medication taken.

Lipid scientists have been telling us for years and the research has supported for years – cholesterol and saturated fats are not your heart’s enemy; industrial fat products, the vegetable oils, are.

Industrial fat products like vegetable oils are toxic to your arteries because they contain delicate polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that are particularly prone to oxidative damage, especially when exposed to heat and when separated from the antioxidants that would otherwise help protect them from that oxidative damage.

Please check these following products and then remove these from your pantry/fridge if they have the oils in them:

Margarine, salad dressings, rice milk, UHF coconut milk, soy milk, soy cheese, soy based meat products, frozen dinners, pastry, packet soups, dried fruits, canned soups, breakfast cereals, roasted nuts (check what they have been roasted in), chips, dry biscuits, shapes etc, granola, soft breads, buns, muffins and trust me french fries would be fried in vegetable oils.

Side note: even if it stipulates organic vegetable oil – it’s the process on how they make it that oxidizes the product.

Good fats that can be used are: olive oil, avocado oil, peanut oil, butter, macadamia nut oil, coconut oil, animal fat such as lard and tallow.

Vegetable oil exposed…

Vegetable oils:
–  impair vitamin absorption and do little to suppress appetite, so you eat more and get less nutrition (makes sense – how many chips do you keep going back for?)

– contain mostly heat-sensitive polyunsaturated fats. When heated, these fragile fats turn into toxic compounds including trans-fats.

If you eat good fats like avocado – you are satiated easier and not reaching for more food. Avocados do not contain any nasties and are very nutrient dense.

Products made from vegetable oil, contain trans fat – even when the label seems to guarantee them trans free, but because heat so readily distorts their fatty acids, vegetable oil and products made from vegetable oil also contain something that worse for us than trans.
Cate calls these mega trans

SCIENCE ALERT:

– Saturated fats can take heat – they can resist a kind of heat related damage called oxidation. Thanks to their shape, saturated fats have no room for oxygen to squeeze in, and even high heat can’t force these tough molecules to be more accommodating.
– Monounsaturated fats have room for just one oxygen molecule to sneak in.
– Polyunsaturated fat – this has two phases where oxygen chemically react, which makes oxygen not twice as likely to bind with the fat molecule, but billions of times more likely!.

Free radicals:

The real trouble is the fact that after you eat these distorted, mutated fatty acids, they can reproduce inside you.

‘Mega trans’ are gangs of bad fats = free radicals.

Free radicals can damage almost any part of your body: cell membranes, chromosomes, other fats – you name it.
They restructure nearly every molecule they come into contact with.

They kill your good bacteria, they make your arteries very crispy (same function that makes plastics solid).

They also damage other bodily tissue, which can generate inflammation, a kind of chemical chaos that interferes with normal metabolic function.

(Once you have metabolic dysfunction, you gain weight and as much as you try to lose weight it becomes an impossible fight).

Frying in vegetable oils doesn’t so much cook your foods as blast them with free radicals – fusing molecules together to make the material (arteries/tendons etc) stiff and inflexible.

How vegetable oils can have serious effects your health:

They attack the brain at seven distinct vulnerability points using seven distinct strategies, this can cause autism and other childhood disorders, it can make your brain susceptible to damage by sugar.

Vegetable oil robs your brain of the ability to form new memories. Nothing takes away your identity the way Alzheimer’s does, with one possible exception: when the effects of vegetable oil reach past the individual and rearrange the genes that will help define the identity of your children, when consuming vegetable oils before and whilst you’re pregnant can affect the baby and has been linked to cases of Autism.

Eliminating vegetable oils will enable symptoms of all sorts of brain disorders to improve, from autism to Alzheimer’s.

Vegetable oil is undoubtedly the most unnatural product we eat in any significant amount. Keep in mind GMOs are generally the starting point in the production of vegetable oil, and things just go downhill from there.

Vegetable oil is what puts the ‘junk’ in junk food.

Fact: Cowboys used cottonseed oil to cure hide leather to make their saddles – not EAT it!

Vegetable oil, the perfect brain-eating toxin, promotes brain disorders both directly and indirectly by impacting these systems:

  1. Gut – inflammatory reactions in the gut influence brain health by the way of microbiota, the immune system and leaky gut.
  2. Lipoproteins – These serve as Trojan horses distributing the toxins to the brain and other target organs.
  3. Arteries – vegetable oil disrupts the regulation of blood flow through the brain.
  4. White blood cells – vegetable oil turns our immune system against causing food and infectious diseases to trigger nerve degenerating reactions.
  5. Nerve cellular architecture – vegetable oils cause an overload of oxidative reactions inside the cell. That’s when we get gray matter, lose our personalities and connections to the world.
  6. Gene replications – vegetable oils impair brain development through direct mutagenic effects on DNA and altered epigenetic expression. Our children are affected by what we eat.

Vegetable oil attacks the brain by first attacking the gut as we know there is a huge connection between the gut and the brain.

Heartburn:

Inflammation causes heartburn, red flagging us that what we are eating is harmful.

Most people relate this to spicy foods, but are ignoring the warning signs of eating the mega trans fats, which have made their way further down the digestive system.

However when you combine this with vegetable oils, stomach acid interacts with otherwise beneficial compounds in our food in such a way as to incite oxidative reactions that lead to the formation of MegaTrans fats that cause damage to the stomach lining – which gives you the heartburn feeling.

This is the beginning then it goes into the next warning symptom – the GI tract and will inflam this area, many people are diagnosed with ulcerative colitis causing bloody diarrhea. It is often confused with appendicitis, and some unlucky people get a serious colon disorder.

If you get heartburn, gastritis or other digestive symptoms – one of the simplest things you can do is eliminate vegetable oils out of your diet.

Continuous inflammation is these areas can lead to serious illnesses such as bad ulcers or even cancer.

Headaches:

Vegetable oil attacks your brain by disarming its antioxidant defense system.

Of all the organs in your body, the brain is most dependant on a steady stream of fresh antioxidants to defends against oxidative stress.

Because vegetable oils can deplete your brain of its antioxidants, they can also compromise this most important brain-defense mechanism, leaving your delicate nerve cells subject to destructive free radical reactions and potentially devastating inflammation.

Headaches and migraines here they come.

Increase your antioxidants:

So oxidative stress plays a huge part in just about every brain disease you can name – so to increase your antioxidants within your diet can help and is very important to your health.

Including foods such as vitamin E, A, C foods such as garlic, cinnamon, cacao and chocolate flavonoids are great. Herbs and spices and rich intense flavour vegetables can help flush your body of free radicals.

Immune system

– white blood cells in the gut have a job to do such as help digest and absorb protein.

However if floating around in vegetable oil they will be unable to do their job of digesting what they can and building a great immune system.

Hence you’ll catch colds at the drop of a hat, feel sick constantly and that leads back to the brain creating brain fog all day and night for weeks and months on end.

Nerve function:

These toxic oils breakdown subcellular highways essential for normal nerve function, giving rise to delays in learning in early life, or, as we age, even dementia.

All packaged products are ladened with vegetable oils – so please again check all the foods you are about to eat and make a very conscious decision on what you actually consume.

Autism:

An alarming find has been that between 2008-2012 Autism rates have increased 30 per cent.

With the average diet increasing the calorie intake with vegetable oils, this is parallel with the rising rates of Autism?

It’s scary what these oils do to our DNA mutations – which includes women’s ovaries, men’s sperm, or a fertilized embryo can have a devastating impact on our future generations.

As many couples are having children later in life, men’s sperm can be affected by a ‘de novo mutation’.

Studies show older men that have children compared to younger men, the risk is higher to have children with Autism.

Let me explain:

  • Vegetable oil has been known to speed up our aging process of the brain (explains Alzheimer’s due to oxidative stress on the brain) well this age process happens the same in a man’s testes, every time he loads up on vegetable oils, the accelerated aging process occurs – ‘de novo mutation’ – this occurs in the sperm producing cells called spermatogonia.
  • So the older he is the more mutation his spermatogonia will produce, the more chance of Autism.
  • However if the father is on a Human diet – fresh protein, plants full of antioxidants and low toxic food, well the mutation would not be produced in his sperm.

I know people get confused with conflicting information – but let me assure you – this is in no way conflicting that this food has any nutritional value.

Here is what others have said about the book:

Deep Nutrition explains in a very detailed and easy to understand way how our diets affect us on a cellular level. Dr Cate Shanahan shows the connection between diet and gene health and details how poor diet choices can affect future generations!” – Kate Wells, The wellness mama.

“Deep nutrition is a different philosophy. I’ve seen great results from it – it’s worked well for me” – Kobe Bryant, Retired NBA player.

Please share this with loved ones, please help them eliminate these foods from their diet.
I guarantee within a week you’ll be feeling the benefits in many ways than one.
