Lessons of 2017

It was the week before Christmas 2016 – the first week of the summer school holidays.
It was to be 7 weeks worth of school holidays – ARRGGHHHH

The first Monday Nate, 6 yrs old had a melt down – something about washing his orange shorts when he wanted to wear them!!
Archer, 8 yr old was giving me 8 year old attitude!, This was going to be a long 7 weeks and I was feeling anxious already,

Now ending the summer holidays I was pleasantly surprised by the events that unfolded throughout the school holidays – they were actually fun, there was no more meltdowns and we all helped each other.

The difference was these holidays – I learnt a lesson – I learnt to scale down my work and actually spend time with my boys, I gave them quality time and they gave me co-operation, and we all gave each other appreciation and gratitude for the time we spent together.

We did all things water sport based, taking in loads of fresh air, we got sand between our toes, we got the full benefits of nature’s natural calming ways.

These days we all are rushed, busy and maybe only half taking note what our children are doing. I had intentions of trying to get them to do some type of writing and maths based work, to keep them in the loop over the holidays – but then I realized it’s life’s lessons that they will get more out of – over the writing and maths.

This will come, this is like all things in life – to cycle – cycle in the learning of book work so to speak – to literally getting your hands dirty, to working out how to bait a fishing line without cutting your finger or getting it stuck on the hook, to explaining to other little humans their age how to cast a line.

 (note the orange shorts)

To having my boys direct me back to camp, having a sense of direction.
School holidays are for a reason – it’s to give them a break from the books – to cycle their brains to learn through books and to learn from experiences.
School holidays are for parents to spend time with their little humans to give them life experiences, to create memories and to give appreciation and get appreciation by teaching and showing them how to handle life in a social way.
School holidays are for teachers to cycle their workloads, to hit the refresh button, to be able to teach our little humans all they can about how to read, write and add up.
My lessons learnt is that we all need to cycle our diets, lifestyles, friendships and relationships to keep us learning and evolving – that’s life.

Enjoy your year of optimal health and gratitude.
