Do Fat Burners work?
Fat burners do not burn body fat.
Studies on certain compounds might suggest it enhances fat mobilization, people may take this product and declare it is the fat burner that is burning the body fat , but what is typically happening is that the fat burner is changing the person’s behaviour.
No different to wearing a shock collar and you get shocked every 15 minutes all day long, that collar would be a fat burner – as in it will make you move, it makes you aware.
Fat burners give you energy, these products have caffeine in them, it makes you jittery and keeps moving around.
Just like adderall – which makes you move more whilst your appetite goes down. This is where the weight loss effects come from with Fat burners. But this isn’t always necessarily burning FAT, you can be losing MUSCLE due to not eating and exercising correctly.
[If it’s loss of muscle, your metabolic levels will drop as well]
But realise – what goes up must come down!
The body does start to adapt to these fat burners by down regulating receptors, changing your hormones and changing your body’s own natural chemical production of norepinephrine, epinephrine to the point where (think of caffeine) you need the product to feel normal.
[Remember the first time you had coffee, the way you felt stimulated]… now you may be at the point if you drink this everyday, you need this stimulant to get you going.
The body is now at a point you need coffee to feel ‘normal’ – this too will apply with fat burners!
Scenario: You take the fat burners – you feel great for a month or two, your taking them more often to start to feel ‘normal’, but nothing is happening anymore (body adapted to them), you go off them, and you have a 1 – 3 week period where you feel like garbage because your new normal is so low and you don’t have anything to bring you back up to ‘normal’ and you have to readjust!
Same applies to PRE workouts –
it started with 50-100ml of caffeine, now they have 300-400ml of caffeine now!!
Our regular coffees are so big now, so they had to increase the caffeine quantity in pre workouts to make them more effective!
Red bull had 80mg caffeine, hence Monster went bigger with 200mg caffeine now.
Fat burners in the interim may help you burn more because you move more, but over the long run, not so much because your body adapts to them…
When you come off a fat burner you will feel pretty horrible, it’s ten times worse than coming off coffee – so you work it out!
Think of the better ways to be healthy in the long run, not the short term!
Natural foods can help your metabolism and digestion;
Ginger can help gut healing and digestion
Grapefruit can help appetite control
Cinnamon helps to level blood sugar levels, and stop the cravings
Magnesium helps to reduce stress on the body, and reduce the cravings
All of these can be added to water, and water itself helps to support cell health, gives you more energy and helps to subside appetite.
Making a mindful effort about moving more each day can make a huge difference on your metabolic health, and is much safer than becoming addicted to stimulated supplements.
Good luck
