South Cape and Cape Hauy – Tasmania

If you are wanting to get into trail walks and sightseeing around Australia, I recommend you put the Tassie trails on your list.

October of 2017 a group of explorers joined me to trailblaze South Cape and Cape Hauy in Tassie and they were not disappointed!

We were lucky to have a central base in Hobart to come back to each night to be able to shower, get comfortable and refuel on some wonderful nourishing food.
Having the ability to do this made the next day of trailblazing a lot easier.

Each year I enjoy taking a group of nature lovers to check in with themselves, to unplug, share their experiences with others and pretty much see the results of their hard work of improving their fitness over the year.
The friendships that are made throughout these hikes are fantastic, not to mention the group support to help their fellow hikers put one step in front of the other.

When I see the photos of these hikes, it definitely shows their how proud they are and how grateful they are to overlook the cliff tops, or to step onto the ‘southest’ black sandy beach of Australia. Yes this is something you don’t get to do everyday.

I understand that many people out there want to judge their fitness through ‘fun runs’ or half marathons and full marathons, and kid you not I’ve done this, however for the amount I have done, nothing compares to these destinations and picturesque views I get to experience with the others.
You can re-run the Melbourne marathon etc, but experiences like this is a once off! (That’s because once you have the nature bug, you want to explore all the other wonderful trails).

Like many others, I am fast paced, want to challenge my body and mind, but let me say, these trails do all that plus more.

Our lifestyles are very Yang, go, go, go, and placing ourselves into a sympathetic mode (stressed) everyday, week in week out, we become oblivious to what we have around us – we miss the natural beauty Australia has to offer us.

When you are in parasympathetic mode your body can take more in, chill, check things out, remember more, and basically help reduce that ‘stressed’ state you find yourselves in too often.

The initial reason I created these opportunities for my crew was help them see their fitness level improve, they weren’t keen on the marathons, and the other endurance events, so they were happy to challenge 6 to 8 hour hikes, to put all their training into perspective.

For those that have not completed a day long hike, for the reasons that they think it’s NOT challenging, I put to you to try this, I bet you’ll be surprised.

Everyone on this trip took away many different experiences, and will have all different memories of what this trip was to them.
From the feeling of achievement, to the ability to sit and reflect on a lost loved one, to listen to stories of others and to put more band-aids over those blisters, they all appreciated the chance to ‘discover Tasmania’.

Here is what the crew said about their experiences:

‘A big thank you to Kerrie for organising the Tassie 2017. It was a well planned and organised trip! Whilst each individual came along for their own reasons , it was great to travel and walk with a group of like minded people, the structure of the planned walks meant you were challenged and but able to walk at your own level . I came away from the trip feeling accomplished , refreshed and grateful for the experience’ – Rebecca – Bannockburn

The early start and group nutritious breakfast was s great start to the day. The 2 hour drive to our destination was a time of fun and forming friendships. The walks were picture perfect and really breathtaking creating many memories.
Despite being physically challenging at times it was great to push through with mindfulness and positive thinking. At times when it was really tough I kept thinking you are healthy with no ailments so just keep putting one foot in front of the other.
The 4 days was fun, regarding, challenging, and a huge thanks to Kez for organising this.
I’ve set new goals for my fitness, family and work whilst walking. I would highly recommend anyone to participate in the next walking adventure. – Nicole – Hamlyn Heights

Here are more words from the gorgeous Tassie trip…

“Thanks again for all your organising for Tassie! I felt so re-energised going back to work after a healthy getaway!” – Ellen – Grovedale

“A huge part of why I exercise is about mental health. Each hike I have taken with Kez has presented different challenges and opportunities.
– Disconnecting from the ‘everyday’ to plug into the great outdoors has immeasurable benefit for my mind and soul. Fresh air – dirt tracks, challenging climbs and breathtaking views.

– The quiet moments on the track to reconnect with myself, to reflect & be grateful for all the blessing in my life.
And the opportunity to share the adventure and life stories with a wonderful group of women (and men).
– Finishing the days feeling accomplished, courageous and recharged.
There are so many new tracks to discovere & I highly recommend anyone of any fitness level to chat to Kez about her next adventure. You never know what the track might hold for you.”
Jules – Hamlyn Heights

“I finally had the time to site an reflect on the passing of my mother, I got to cry, and release without anyone around. I didn’t need to pull myself together, because this was the first time I was able to. This felt cleansing, being in such a beautiful place, made this release peaceful”
– Tammy – Lovely Banks

Learn to unplug more often – your body and mind will love you for it…
