Dairy of competition prepping
#peakweek
BANG….. it’s here – it’s the week I have been waiting for to see and learn how my body reacts, to take note on what happens every day this week leading into the competition on Sunday.
I must admit I read up alot on what other coaches/professionals have done this week in terms of water depletion and carb loading. I did ask Liz, but what Liz had given me to follow was exactly what she did for peak week. So to follow what I have always done to date, I stick to her plan to ensure I “trust the process”.
Monday –
weighed in 57.1kg
Water intake 3 litres, diet is just fish x 4 times and chicken x 2 with either asparagus and or spinach.
Average daily calories this week is 850-900 cals, Protein 70%, Carbs 20%, Fats 10%. Fibre 25g.
I trained with Liz in the morning and we did super sets with an all over body workout. My weights are a bit lighter and the body is feeling buggered.
I met with Lindsay (naturopath) and have a body composition test to see where I have come in :
lost 3 kg in 5 weeks
sitting at 13% body fat
lost a bit of muscle active tissue mass down a bit from last scan
my biological age hasn’t changed
I’m carrying 1.9lt of water – so potential to lose just under 2kg for comp this week.
I’m to continue taking magnesium, vitamin B and vitamin C until Wednesday – then cut them out to ensure body get rids of everything.
Tuesday –
weighed in 57kg
Water intake 2 litres (temp today est 35oC!!!)
5am – Cardio session on stepper only 20 mins approx 4km
10.30am – 4 x 10 all over body workout – supersetting – lighter weights
Had my vitamins and
3 x espresso coffees
INBA contacted me to say the figure international division was cancelled due to only I entering, so one less stage appearance (which suits me)
Noticing that my muscles are showing a bit, due to water depleting.
Wednesday –
weighed in 56.4kg
Water intake 1 litre of water (very humid morning)
Dropped all supplements today. 2 x espresso coffees
5am training session – tabata 30 sec on 10 sec off, all over body workout. (LAST WORKOUT) Found work very hard today trying to stay focused and lacking water made me very irritable.
Thursday –
weighed in 56.2kg
Water intake 1 litre
Only worked half the morning – which was enough and a group session at 2pm, then headed off camping.
Feeling very weak but have the end in sight to get me through.
2 x espresso coffees
Friday –
Water intake 600mls
Slept in till 9.30am. My thought process was the longer I sleep the less hours I’m up and wanting food.
I felt very hungry all day, my body was still wanting fuel from yesterdays training session, so I ended up eating nearly a whole roast chook!!!
2 espresso coffees.
The drop in calories this week has been huge.
Walked for 40 mins at an average pace.
Saturday –
Water intake – sips only – but I ended up having 2 short blacks only for the day, no water. Again let my body rest and got up about 9am.
Walked for 30 mins at an easy pace.
Just tried to relax as much as I could, started to really hate the food today and got through knowing in 24 hours it’d all be over.
Got my spray tan tonight – OMG very dark already without the top coat.
Packed final things in my bag ready for the morning, prepped my breakfast and pre comp snacks.
Sunday – COMP DAY
Weighed in at 55.7kg
I still didn’t look as lean as I thought I would with no water, but goes to show everyone is different.
5.45am get up – hair and make up done
6.30am Breakfast – 100gms chicken, asparagus and 50gm sweet potato.
9am thin rice cakes with honey x 3 while Liz patted the top coat on. (along with 95% of the other contestants eating the same)
9.45am a few Allens strawberry and cream lollies (Oh gee they tasted awesome!)
9.50am started pumping up pre stage appearance
10.10am – walked out on stage – Oh my what an experience!!!
In the Ms figure masters +40 I placed 3rd which I was so stoked with (5 contestants)
In the Rising star Ms Figure I didn’t place (10 contestants)
My feedback was I had softer glutes than the other competitors and I must grow in the shoulders a bit more to make a better V shape. I need to improve on my walk on stage confidence – but hey not bad for the first ever comp I have done.

Post comp I had my bircher muesli packed and ordered a long black with milk! As much as these were both very nice, my goodness the sweetness was too much. Each contestant received a donut on their check in. For photo reasons I had a bite – but gee wizz it’s not really a great example they set with post comp food being so high in sugar.
This day was such a buzz, I loved the learning, I loved seeing how the body changed, I noted how the body felt and most of all I learnt how dam strong I was mentally to accomplish this challenge. I will compete again – too compete against myself, to see growth in the body and muscles and to be able to tweak the diet to how my body copes. Liz noted that I probably did a week too long in prep, that my body looked a bit flat on the day, my body looked fuller and better the week before.
But hey this is what this sport is all about – learning/adapting/improving in not only the physique side of things but the mind side of things as well.
I’m off to enjoy some family and friends time…..
Will post some more diary entries very soon.
