When you talk about calories in calories out and if they exist and if it matters – what you have to realize is that the calories out part is our metabolism and it adjusts all throughout the day.

Our metabolism is always adjusting to find homeostasis or to keep us alive.

Some days your body could burn 2000 calories as of that day, but tomorrow you could have poor sleep, be in a bad mood, have a busy schedule, get less sunlight, eat differently etc and then your body will burn a different amount of calories.

If you are going to work on eating X amount of calories because you think your body burns Y amount of calories and you do not take into account what training you have done, sleep you have had, if you’ve been out in the sun or you’ve had a day of hectic meetings, or been stuck in traffic and your frustrations have risen, you will never get your calories in and calories out sum correct.

Everyday is so different and the only way I can answer this is that you be mindful of the wholefoods you eat, keep to protein, fibre and water to nourish your body best.

  • Avoid processed food as much as possible.
  • Get adequate sleep
  • Move as much as you can, stretch throughout the day to release tension
(This doesn’t mean to flog yourself in training)

Your metabolism needs to be adaptable, not necessarily a fast metabolism.

Take small steps each day to work on the overall picture of your health, I suggest start with getting the right amount of sleep and quality sleep.
