Top foods that help prevent cancer:

(according to Dr David Wilkinson)

anti-cancer

Broccoli along with cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and kale.

Only steam broccoli briefly so as you don’t destroy the crutical myrosinase enzyme.
Chew it well to release and activate nutrients
3 -5 servings a week

Berries – raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and cranberries.
Full of antioxidants.
Berries with more seed and darker colours contain the most nutrients.

Turmeric – traditional Indian spice root of the Curcuma longa plant (related to ginger)

Best combined with pepper, coconut oil to improve the absorption and blood levels enormously.
Turmeric has been shown to block many phases of cancer progression. It can block the genes which control the production of cancer-favouring chemistry.

Garlic along with onions, leeks, chives and shallots.

When the garlic is cut it releases allinase and this is a potent cancer fighter, but garlic needs to be raw for this to happen, when cooked the allinase enzyme is destroyed and nothing happens. Therefore wait 15 minutes after crushing before cooking, but cooking still does reduce the effectiveness (crush garlic in all your dips that will be eaten raw).

Green tea it contains catechins (EGCG)

Green tea leaves are subjected to heating which inactivates the oxidizing enzyme and preserves the anticancer chemistry – as opposed to black teas – the leaves are blackened as they have been allowed to oxidize (ferment) after being picked. This leaves only 15% of the cancer fighting catechins remain.
Green tea works by blocking the signals which make cancer cells divide.
3 cups a day is effective.

Flaxseeds contains omega 3 and lignans, each that independently contribute against cancer.

Excessive omega 6 oils are proinflammatory and linked to cancer, so avoid common vegetable oils and fried foods.
Omega 3 oils are associated with lower cancer rates. Omega 3 is found in salmon, sardines, flaxseeds and walnuts.
Buy your flaxseeds whole and ground them (nutrabullet) prior to use and any left over keep in fridge to prevent becoming rancid.
Two tablespoons of flaxseed per day is recommended.

Mushrooms their minerals, vitamins, amino acids, fibre and compounds now known to be cancer preventive. Spoken that these are “miniature pharmaceutical – with miraculous biological properties”.

They produce growth inhibitors to combat competition from other parasitic organisms, in order to secure the nutrient-rich territory for themselves. They activate the immune system with their beta-glucans.
The immune system plays an important role against cancer.
Buy fresh, eat them cooked.

Selenium as in brazil nuts, sardines, eggs, poultry, garlic, sunflower seeds and tuna.
Good for thyroid hormone and antioxidant enzymes. More selenium means less cancer.
Have 200-300mcg per day.

Carrots – carotene has carotenoids which have been linked to lowering breast cancer.

Lycopene, the red pigment in tomatoes, reduces prostate cancer risk.
Tomatoes are most effective when ripe, cooked and consumed in an oil rich meal.
Protection from cancer can be achieved by having two meals per week with tomato based meals and having two carrots per day.

Magnesium and coffee have also got a mention in helping to prevent cancer.

All information has been extracted from Dr David Wilkinson’s book “Can food be medicine against cancer”

Very interesting book and well worth a read it combines science, medicine and “not-so-common” sense.

It goes into a lot of detail, but I believe nutrition is a huge part of cancer cure. Having watched my brother suffer from this horrible disease, I wish now I had researched more into natural remedies than the mainstream medicine of chemotherapy. I believe the foods on this planet can help. If you reduced all your refined carbohydrates and high sugared foods (starting with eliminating boxed cereals and breads) and consumed your fresh plants, herbs and wild seafood, nuts, seeds, natural yoghurt and spices you will adopt much better health.

Be aware of toxins and unfiltered water. Don’t cook food in teflan pans, be aware of microwaves.

Try not to stress too much, spend time with positive people.

To have my brother back would be so wonderful, but as this will not happen, I will continue my mission to help people live a healthier life for longer – and not become another statistic of a cancer patient.

Yours in health

Kerrie.
